Yea, I know that heading does not look right but in binary that equation is true.
I began this journey towards IT certification (yes it is pronounced I T not it) back in November. November 2 was my first day on the job as an IT technician at a local medical clinic. I went in nervous and some what terrified. I thought I knew something about computer repair but soon found out that my knowledge was nil. I had to learn it in order to keep this wonderful job. So, I began my studies on what the powers that be suggested was a good starting point, the CompTIA A+ certification.
The method of self study that I went down was some CBTnugget videos since my place of employment subscribed to that sites service. I believe that particular track contained about 30 individual videos. They were very educational from an information stand point. I also purchased a Fast Pass book and read it. I proceeded to search for every practice exam I could find online. As soon as I felt comfortable I went and took the exam. I did pass and can proudly say that I am A+ certified. I even continued to the next suggested certification, Network+. That one was a little more difficult. I followed the same steps as before using videos, books, and practice tests. I passed it with a higher score than on the previous exam.
This has began my trek towards more certifications or possibly insanity. I have learned that the topics get more difficult with each one. Case in point, Cisco CCNA. I was invited to sit in a two day course covering the fundamentals of networking, Cisco style. I can honestly say that my brain was exhausted after those two days. Way too much information for such a short period of time. Although, it did spark an interest in me to continue down the networking path. I had previously started studying for CompTIA's little know Server+ exam but quickly put that book down for the Cisco stuff. I have decided to take the two test route for CCNA. This would give me the CCENT after the first exam and then CCNA after the second. I just don't know if I could tackle all the information needed to take the full blown CCNA exam at one sitting. I would definitely lose my mind.
I am done rambling so I better get back to my studies. Between learning commands and trying to subnet (that could be a completely different blog) and just may lose my mind. Until then don't drop a packet.
